Honoring a Legacy of Peace in Ghana

Accra, Ghana - The Universal Peace Federation of Ghana held a memorial ceremony on May 5 for Ambassadors for Peace who recently passed to the spiritual world.
Our desire was to honor six people, but the family of one of the deceased could not be contacted due to the fact that they had relocated to a different region. Therefore, we held the ceremony for five Ghanaians and three people who were honored in international programs.
Sample materials used in Legacy of Peace ceremonies in other nations were obtained, and the program was planned accordingly with responsibilities assigned to UPF members and Ambassadors for Peace. Invitations were extended to family members.
The following Ghanaians were honored:
DR. AMPEM DEKYI AGYEI (on the left table – 1st from left)

- Part-time Senior Lecturer, Dept. of Animal Sciences, UG, Legon 1997-2002
- Deputy Director, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) till death
- Member: Ghana Science Association; Ghana Society for Animal Production; Society for Tropical Veterinary Medicine, USA; New York Academy of Science,USA;
- Corporate Member of the Institute of Biology, London
MR. ASIANOA K. AKUOKO ‘GAMBIA’ (on the left table – 2nd from left)
- Born September 9, 1928, Bekwai – Ashanti Region
- Studied at the Momsmol College, USSR
- Regional Instructor, Ghana Young Pioneer Movement (GYP) till 1966
- Regional Coordinator, Ghana United Nations Association, (GUNA)
- Served the Ghana Red Cross National Trust Fund; the Regional Security Council; Municipal Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Education Service
- Excellent in youth upbringing to dignity, hard work and patriotism
MR. SETH SEMPLE KWAKU ABOTSI (on the left table – 4th from left)
- Born February 2, 1926, Agbozume – Volta Region
- Ebenezer Secondary School, 1948-1951
- Cambridge School Certificate
- Worked at Ghana Telecommunication 1955-1993
- Founder, Ebenezer A.M.E. Zion Church, New Sempe, Accra
MR. FRANCIS SPIDER AOUMIA (on the right table – 2nd from right)
- Born June 16, 1950, Elubo – Western Region
- University of Abidjan
- Studied French, Portuguese, History and Philosophy 1979-1984
- Worked in Abidjan as Supervisor of NICAO & MASAVACI Enterprise 1984-1989
- University of Cape Coast, 2002-2006
- District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service in Half Assini
- Secretary, the United Nations’ Students Association – Elubo
- President, Tertiary Students’ Union – Elubo

It was quite an interesting experience for both the organizers and the family members of honorees. The event offered some new insights into the scope of UPF. For example, the National Vice Chairman of the Ghana Muslim Mission, Hajj Abdallah Tetteh, paid tribute to UPF Founder Rev. Sun Myung Moon for his "generosity to mankind in pursuit of peace and love." He concluded that his "legacy of peace will forever be cherished."
