Ayacucho, Peru - Ambassador for Peace Dr. Cesar Aguayo participated in a May 20 forum in the Andean city of Ayacucho, famous for its 33 churches. He spoke about the work of UPF in Peru and internationally.
The next day a peace march took place, which concluded with the appointment of the Mayor of Huamanga and the Archbishop of Ayacucho and other local dignitaries as Ambassadors for Peace.
The terrorist organization known as the Shining Path (Sendero Luminoso) had used Ayachucho as its base for its campaign against the Peruvian government. With the movement towards peace of the last 15 years, local people are working to improve the living conditions, and the city has become known the Sanctuary of Peace
