Afghan Singer Farhad Darya appointed Ambassador for Peace

Vienna, Austria - A colloquium on “Afghanistan - a Country in Transformation: Promoting Peace and Development through Art” took place Dec. 2, 2014 in the Vienna International Center (UN headquarters).
UN Goodwill Ambassador Farhad Darya, who was the keynote speaker of the event, is the most famous singer and a shining hope for Afghanistan. He was presented with a UPF Ambassador for Peace certificate afterwards. After receiving the certificate, he said that now he felt empowered to bring peace not just to his country, Afghanistan, but to the whole world.
He received a standing ovation after his concluding remarks, a rather unusual occurrence at a conference in the UN headquarters.
The event was organized by the Permanent Mission of Afghanistan in Vienna, ACUNS [Academic Council of the UN System] Vienna Liaison Office and UNODC [UN Office on Drugs and Crime].
