Palhoça, Brazil—In April, UPF-Brazil held the 8th Walk for Peace and a meeting for Ambassadors for Peace in Palhoça, in the southern state of Santa Catarina.
8th Walk for Peace
On April 16, 2016, UPF-Brazil in partnership with the Palhoça City Hall held the 8th Walk for Peace in the Upper Aririu neighborhood of Palhoça. Approximately 800 people—Ambassadors for Peace, families, teachers, students, and local organizations—participated in the walk. Among the organizations were the High Aririu Center, Community Center Madrid, Primary School Our Lady of Fatima, State Schools Nicolina Tancredo, Association of Women Anita Garibaldi (AMAG), Women's Association for World Peace (AMPM) and the Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles (CARP)-Brazil.
Second Meeting for Ambassadors for Peace
A meeting for Ambassadors for Peace from Florianópolis, the capital of Santa Catarina state, was held on April 22 at the Palhoça City Hall. More than 200 people attended the meeting, including Mr. Ivon Jomir de Souza, deputy of Santa Catarina state; Mr. Otavio Marcelino Martins, president of the city hall; and Mr. Arcedino Jose Cerion, a local councilman. A video about UPF was shown, which was followed by a presentation on “Strengthening the Family as the Key to a World of Peace,” given by Dr. Neudir Ferabolli, president of UPF-Brazil. Ambassador for Peace Mariah Terezinha Pereira Nascimento, rector of the municipal faculty of Palhoça, also spoke, on the theme, "Family: God's Design for the World."
After the meeting, 26 new Ambassadors for Peace were appointed. Also honored were four Ambassadors for Peace for their social and community service activities in 2015. Mr. John Carlos Armandio was given the “Ambassador for Peace of the Year” award; Mr. Otavio Marcelino Martins, Coronel Aureus Sandro Cardoso and Roberto Pascoalato were given the "Friends of UPF" award.
