Ambassadors for Peace

Australians Discuss a More Inclusive Society

Australia-2016-04-04-Discuss a More Inclusive Society

Sydney, Australia—Some 40 Ambassadors for Peace, UPF supporters and guests attended the bimonthly Ambassadors for Peace meeting at the Oceania Peace Embassy.

Emcee Mrs. Jynene Helland welcomed the attendees to the April 4, 2016, event. Mr. Greg Stone, president of UPF Australia, presented an insightful overview of UPF core values and activities based on the theme of “World Peace and Universal Values.”

Ms. Dai Le, founder of the Diverse Australasian Women’s Network (DAWN), was the guest presenter on the theme “Building an Inclusive Australian Society.” Ms. Le, who was named one of the Top 100 Influential Women in Australia by The Australian Financial Review newspaper and Westpac bank, spoke about her experience as a young refugee from Vietnam, then as a pioneering journalist and political activist in Australia. The organization she founded, DAWN, works with mainstream institutions and organizations so that they come to reflect the multicultural society that is Australia. DAWN champions diverse leadership in the Australian workspace by helping to harness the potential of Australians from culturally varied backgrounds and to unlock their potential to be leaders in their field.

The evening concluded with a performance by a UPF choir of the songs “Both Sides Now” and “What a Wonderful World.” There was also a dance from Bali, “Tari Puspanjali,” by a young Indonesian performer, Ayeshah Ahmed.

This was an inspirational and enjoyable evening with great presentations. As usual, the evening included the sharing of food and good company with like-minded people of goodwill irrespective of backgrounds, ethnicity and religion.
