Abuja, Nigeria—At a ceremony to receive a new almanac, Nigerian Ambassadors for Peace were urged to work toward ensuring that Nigeria becomes a nation of peace by 2020.
The 2017 Ambassadors for Peace Almanac is a collection of over 200 photographs. In addition to photos of the UPF Founders and several UPF projects in Nigeria, the almanac contains the images of committed Ambassadors for Peace in different parts of Nigeria as well as in Diaspora.
The 12-page almanac was developed to showcase and appreciate the Nigerian Ambassadors for Peace and to ensure that the official photos of the UPF Founders are placed in the home of every UPF member in Nigeria. Over 1,000 copies have been printed and distributed to Ambassadors for Peace.
At the formal presentation ceremony at the National Merit Award House, during the closing session of the International Women’s Day conference on March 8, 2017, UPF-Nigeria was commended for the initiative with a recommendation that the 2018 almanac should be available by December 2017.
UPF-Nigeria Secretary General Dr. Raphael Ogar Oko gave a brief explanation of the reasons for the almanac and the challenges of raising funds to produce it. Then Dr. George Ikpot, the UPF-Nigeria director of international affairs, coordinated the presentation of the almanac to the Ambassadors for Peace who were present.
After the formal presentation, several copies were sent to Ambassadors for Peace in the Nigerian states of Kano, Kaduna, Niger, Kogi, Akwa Ibom, Kwara, Nasarawa, Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Rivers, Bayelsa, Lagos, Edo and Delta, as well as to some Ambassadors for Peace in the United Kingdom.
Copies of the almanac were also presented to Dr. Dong Ho Cho, the UPF regional chair for Africa West, at a recent conference in the Republic of Benin. Several persons who are not Ambassadors for Peace requested to join UPF after seeing the almanac, and they also asked for a copy of the almanac to display in their home.
