Ambassadors for Peace Seminar Held in Abuja, Nigeria

Abuja, Nigeria—Over 100 dignitaries including Ambassadors for Peace who attended a one-day seminar have called for the establishment of a National Peace College and funding of interethnic marriages in Nigeria as a strategy to achieve national peace. The seminar, which was held at the conference hall of Nanet Hotel in Abuja featured 12 UPF Ambassadors for Peace who mobilized their colleagues and associates from their houses of worship and workplaces to learn about the UPF peace principles and the Ambassadors for Peace initiative.
The seminar was one of the monthly Ambassadors for Peace Basic Responsibility Education Programs for new and prospective members of the UPF in Nigeria. The event began with introduction of the Ambassadors for Peace present and their guests and was followed by an invocation and the national anthem of Nigeria.
Dr. George Ikpot, secretary general of the Professors World Peace Academy-Nigeria gave welcoming remarks and an overview of the seminar. Rev. Felix Johnson, UPF-Nigeria director of executive affairs, gave the opening address, inviting participants to consider becoming active members of the Universal Peace Federation. He testified about UPF’s founders and enjoined all Ambassadors for Peace to strive to become true parents in their families and true leaders in the community.
Participants watched with keen interest a video displaying the diversity of activities of the UPF around the world. The video presentation was followed by a question-and-answer session.
The second session followed a short break that provided opportunities for participants to interact and exchange ideas. The session featured presentations on the UPF peace principles and the vision, mission and activities of Ambassadors for Peace. The seminar provided a general overview of the activities of UPF’s founders, programs and projects as well as information on how to participate in the World Peace Blessing Program. A special feature was a focus on “My Basic Responsibilities as an Ambassador for Peace,” which was summarized into the three areas of “Be a Peaceful Citizen, Establish a Peaceful Family and Develop and Utilize Resources for Peace.”
During the discussion session, participants reviewed the presentations on the peace principles and the three basic responsibilities extensively. They also discussed how to participate in the UPF World Peace Blessing Program as well as how to organize the Peace Blessing Programs in their local communities.
The program continued with the induction of new Ambassadors for Peace. They included former Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim, governor of Yobe State and now member of the National Assembly; His Majesty, Eze Nwabueze Soronnadi Ezewuiro, Chief Michael Duru Ejiogu, a businessman; Mr. Ademola Andrew Mogbojuri of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Hon. Yusuf Bello Suleiman and Auwal Gonga. Others were Israel Chibueze Ibeleme, Hayatudeen Muhammed, Adam Tarpaya Asarya and his wife Regina Tarpaya Asarya, Mrs. Lami Abalaka Sakyenu, Pastor Chris Jeboliseh Adabili and Dr. Akon Eyo Eyakenyi, former minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The induction ceremony featured the affirmation of the UPF peace principles and pledges to become peaceful citizens, establish peaceful families and use available resources for the sake of peace.
Speaking at the closing session, Sen. Bukar Abba Ibrahim supported the call for the establishment of the National Peace College and mobilization of public funding for interethnic marriage programs being organized by the UPF in Nigeria. After some congratulatory remarks, the 2018 UPF Nigeria Ambassadors for Peace almanac was formally launched and distributed. The seminar ended with a group photo and closing prayers. Several journalists covered the event and reported on it in the local newspapers.
