Buenos Aires, Argentina—Two leaders of UPF in Latin America spoke about UPF’s global initiatives at a meeting for Ambassadors for Peace and other guests, held at the Peace Embassy in Buenos Aires city on June 18, 2018.
Rev. Dongmo Shin, director of UPF-South America, gave a presentation on two UPF initiatives, the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) and the Interreligious Association for Peace and Development (IAPD) (1). He talked about the visit UPF co-founder Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon will make to the region for the upcoming Latin America Summit 2018, which is being sponsored by UPF and will convene from August 2 to 5, 2018 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.”
There is increasing awareness among people that innovative vision and bold leadership is needed to solve the critical issues affecting our world, such as poverty and corruption; environmental degradation and climate change; family breakdown; and racial and religious conflict. The Summit, whose theme is “Peace and Development in America Latina: Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity and Universal Values” will bring together leaders—current and former heads of state from the region and the world, parliamentarians, religious and civil society leaders, scholars, and representatives from other sectors of society—to address the critical issues of our time.
During the conference, on August 3, the Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP)-Latin America, an affiliated organization, will hold an assembly at which the Youth and Students for Peace (YSP) in Latin America will be inaugurated.
The next day, on August 4, the Latin America branch of the IAPD will be inaugurated and the Family Festival will be held at the Allianz Parque Stadium (Palmeiras), where Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon will deliver a keynote address.
(1) In addition to the IAPP and IAPD, other UPF initiatives include the Peace Road project, an international peace highway that links the world together for the sake of peace and human development; the Sunhak Peace Prize, which honors exemplary individuals and organizations that have served the world; and the Leadership and Good Governance Awards.
