Lima, Peru—UPF-Peru held its first National Congress of Ambassadors for Peace on October 27, 2018 at its headquarters in the Miraflores district of Lima.
The congress began with the presentation of videos about various activities the chapter has carried out in Ayacucho city as well as on the national level, including the forums that were held at the Congress of Peru in commemoration of International Women's Day and the International Day of Peace, and the works of Ambassadors for Peace serving communities across the country. The official weekly radio program of UPF-Peru was also presented.
The emcee, Mr. Jaime Fernández Túpac, secretary general of UPF-Peru, opened the program, and Dr. Trevor Jones, president of the chapter, welcomed all the Ambassadors of Peace and highlighted the past works of Ambassadors for Peace and UPF-Peru. He also noted that new members of the chapter’s Presidential Council would be appointed during the event and invited all the Ambassadors for Peace present to participate in the Council by joining committees to improve the organizational work of UPF in Peru.
The program continued with Congressman Dr. Yonhy Lescano Ancieta and UPF-Peru vice president, Gen. Héctor Jhon Caro, giving reflections on UPF. They both stressed the value of the organization and the work of UPF co-Founder Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon.
Then, new members of the Presidential Council were appointed for a term of two years. Among those appointed were Mrs. Patricia Contador Durand who is the wife of Congressman Lescano; Mrs. María Elena Rivero Laverde, director of Radio Moderna; Mrs. Maria Del Rosario Tanaka Lazo, vice president of the Chamber of Commerce of Jesus Maria; Mrs. Amavelia Morales Díaz; Dr. Virginia Zegarra Larroche; Dr. María Isabel Romaní Alcarraz; Dr. Teresa Otiniano Castillo; Rev. Juan Carlos Celis Marcelo; and Mrs. Melissa Sandoval Torres.
This was followed by acknowledgments of media who have supported UPF by publishing articles or broadcasting news about the work of UPF. Mr. Salvador Otoya, manager of Radio Moderna; Mr. Walter Echevarría, director of Actual View magazine; and the general manager of the Journalistic Group Challenges were recognized.
The work of Mrs. Melissa Sandoval was also recognized and she was appointed as UPF-Peru’s press director. As well, UPF-Peru appointed two official reporters: Mr. Ivan Lostaunau and Mr. Daniel Brandan.
The evening concluded with a musical performance by the JAPARI II group in which Mr. Fernández showed his talent for playing the quena, a traditional flute of the Andes.
