Benin City, Nigeria—Australian Ambassador for Peace Lawrence Osayande initiated the Pad An African Girl project to alleviate poverty in Africa, and on March 28, 2019, launched the program in Benin City, the capital of Edo state in Nigeria. An office is now being set up in the city. The project provides sanitary pads to vulnerable girls and mothers who can’t afford them and school uniforms to less privileged school children.
In April, Mr. Osayande and his team provided sanitary pads to vulnerable women in Edo state’s central prison and visited schools to foster awareness of the usefulness of sanitary products and hygiene.
