Portugal-2020-02-29-Ambassadors for Peace Testify to World

Lisbon, Portugal—The importance of World Summit 2020 was the topic of a meeting of Ambassadors for Peace.

Mr. Giuseppe Cali, the UPF regional director for Southern Europe, came from Italy to meet the Ambassadors for Peace from both UPF and its affiliated organization Women's Federation for World Peace (WFWP). The meeting was held on February 29, 2020, at the UPF Peace Embassy.

The national leaders of these two organizations also attended the meeting: Dr. Sérgio Vieira of UPF and Dr. Marta de Carvalho of WFWP. Dr. Sérgio Neto, national leader of another partner organization, the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) also was present. In addition, there were 11 Ambassadors for Peace (two of whom attended the meeting via WhatsApp video), three guests (future candidates for this appointment) and seven members of these present organizations, totaling 26 persons.

Given the serious problems in the world, the motivation for this meeting was to speak with the Ambassadors for Peace about the importance and global repercussions of the great and historic World Summit 2020, held in Korea from February 3 to 8, 2020. The summit celebrated the 100th birthday of UPF co-founder Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon and the 77th birthday of his wife and co-founder, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, as well as their 60th wedding anniversary.

World Summit 2020 was an event at the highest political and governmental, interreligious, intercultural, academic, scientific, media, business and civil society level. Leaders combined efforts for the construction of a world of peace under the summit theme "Interdependence, Co-Prosperity and Universal Values." UPF-Portugal, together with WFWP-Portugal, brought to this summit a delegation of four persons representing the academic, media and religious areas.

In addition to the inspiring and motivating message from Mr. Giuseppe Cali, the UPF meeting included a discussion of the issues that were raised and firsthand testimonies from two of the Ambassadors for Peace who attended this Korea summit.

Dr. Pedro Garcia, the CEO of Oásis TV, expressed his total commitment to support the objectives of UPF. Professor Dr. Esmeraldo Azevedo from the administration of the Lusophone University of Humanities and Technologies in Lisbon expressed this same intention through a written testimony, as he was not able to attend the meeting personally.

It was a very rich and fruitful encounter. Despite the difficulty that several other Ambassadors for Peace had in attending the meeting (and also some unforeseen events), it happened successfully and was filmed and recorded on audio by Oásis TV.
