Bogotá, Colombia—On November 24, 2020, UPF received the highest decoration awarded by the House of Representatives of the Congress of the Republic of Colombia, the Simon Bolivar Order of Democracy in the Commander Cross degree. The commemoration was held in the Luis Carlos Galán Sarmiento Room of the Congress of the Republic building.
The commemoration was granted at the initiative of the House Representatives Dr. German Blanco Álvarez, who currently serves as president of UPF-Colombia, and Dr. Armando Zabarín, who participated in the 2020 World Summit held in Korea in February.
The commemoration "Simón Bolívar Order of Democracy" is an official honor and distinction of the civil order granted by the Colombian House of Representatives to organizations outstanding for their service to the country in any field and was instituted to highlight effort, loyalty and the virtues of citizens or institutions in favor of democracy.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the House and senators of the Republic having different parties and ideologies who were appointed Ambassadors of Peace and defenders of human rights and religious freedom, conscience and worship, promoting a culture of dialogue and cooperation in the parliamentary sector.
The meeting with the parliamentarians also had the purpose of reactivating activities of the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace-Colombia, which was created in 2016 in the same building and hall of the Congress of the Republic of Colombia.
The meeting was attended by invited leaders from different areas who were also appointed as Ambassadors for Peace for their commitment to building a world of peace.
The total number of guests was 44 people, among whom 31 new Ambassadors for Peace were appointed. Close relations will be maintained with them in cooperative projects that support the expansion of Heavenly Parent’s Holy Community.
