Kathmandu, Nepal—UPF organized a special program at the Hotel Yak and Yeti in Kathmandu on March 6, 2021 to pay tribute to health workers in Nepal who have been risking their lives to save others during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fourteen people, including 11 doctors; a state minister, Hon. Ram Bir Manandhar; and two journalists were honored with an Ambassador for Peace award. Attending the event were 113 participants, including two former government ministers, 13 members of parliaments, four diplomats, and 34 Ambassadors for Peace and other dignitaries.

The chief guest, Hon. Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, chairman of the National Assembly of Nepal, congratulated the awardees and expressed his appreciation for the noble sacrifices and contributions of health workers during the pandemic.

Mrs. Sujata Koirala, former deputy prime minister and a member of parliament, said that with the limited sources they had, health workers had shown their best performance during this public health crisis.

The chairman of the award ceremony, former government minister and chairman of UPF- and the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP)-Asia Pacific, Hon. Ek Nath Dhakal, spoke about UPF’s global activities and highlighted the sacrifices health workers have made. Former Indian ambassador to Nepal, K.V. Rajan, in a video message, congratulated all the awardees and thanked UPF for remembering the nation's health workers.    

Representing the honorees was Dr. Sagar Rajbhandari, who expressed his appreciation for the work of UPF, and shared what health workers went through to serve the public in this time.

A congratulatory song was performed by Ms. Sadeeksha Kattel.  The program was moderated by UPF-South Asia director, Mr. Santosh Kumar Paudel, and welcome remarks were given by UPF-Philippines representative Mr. Richell Jalipa.
