Lisbon, Portugal—An online event held in memory of the UPF founder reminded viewers of his most challenging teachings in a lifetime of seeking world peace.
Thirty-five participants attended the April 10, 2021 event, which focused attention on aspects of Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon’s life and work that were not emphasized in last year’s celebrations of his centenary.
After an introductory video that included some passages of the founder’s teachings, four speakers gave testimonies about Father Moon and his movement:
Professor Dr. Carlos Poiares, vice rector of the Lisbon Lusophone University;
Professor Delmar Gonçalves, president of the Circle of Mozambican Writers in the Diaspora and a longtime Ambassador for Peace;
Dr. Adriana Melges, a psychologist and an Ambassador for Peace;
Lia Vieira, a young member of the High School Association for the Research of Principles (HARP), an organization that is affiliated with UPF.
The speakers spoke about the founder and his peace movement, and they related experiences of working alongside UPF, including their participation in national and/or international activities and events.
Young Lia Vieira, who was born within this peace movement, testified that the important lessons learned from Rev. and Mrs. Moon have influenced her moral and ethical choices, which she said can lead her to become a better adult.
After a musical performance, Dr. Sérgio Vieira, the national president of UPF-Portugal, gave the main talk, titled “Sun Myung Moon, A Legacy of Love—Life, Teachings and Testimonies.” His presentation made use of Centenary posters that included quotes from Father Moon about God’s relationship with human beings, living for the sake of others, forgiving one’s enemies, true love, and the value of human beings as objects of God’s love.
The program ended with announcements about future UPF events and the promotion of the autobiographies of Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon.
UPF-Portugal thanks the speakers and all of the participants. "We are together."
