UPF-Slovakia Features Ukraine Security Expert

Slovakia-2022-03-28-UPF-Slovakia Invites Security Expert for Ukraine Background

Bratislava, Slovakia—To provide a broad overview of the roots of the Ukrainian war, UPF-Slovakia organized a presentation by the famous journalist and international security expert Dr. Igor Cibula.

The event, titled “Ukraine – Background and Prospects,” was held at the Peace Embassy in Bratislava on March 28, 2022, and attracted much attention. Among the almost 50 participants were numerous new faces. The event was moderated by Milos Klas, president of UPF-Slovakia.

The current conflict is also a battle of words, a confusing flood of truth and untruth, facts and allegations. That is why UPF invited Dr. Cibula to shed some light on the roots of the escalation. Dr. Cibula has his own website (www.orientacia.sk) where he gives daily updates on the latest developments of the Ukrainian war, citing many international sources. Accordingly, his analysis was very comprehensive and balanced. Dr. Cibula stated that he had studied numerous books and publications about Vladimir Putin, but years ago there was little prediction of the current development.

He highlighted the mistakes of both warring parties. First, he explained why Ukraine came into existence, including the long-standing resistance against Bolshevism. He also described various viewpoints on the conflict and suggested how to proceed.

To sum up, Dr. Cibula spoke vehemently in favor of Ukraine's right to exist as an independent state, citing many valid facts in this regard. Finally, he answered many questions from the audience. Many guests told the organizers that they would enjoy more such talks. A lot of information distributed by the media does not automatically produce more understanding!

The last part of the event was a presentation about an aid project for Ukrainian refugees. Laurenc Klas from the Slovakian chapter of Youth and Students for Peace, an organization that is affiliated with UPF, described the work of “RISE for Displaced Ukrainians in Moldova.” There, young volunteers provide food, clothes and hygiene products to families who have left Ukraine and are now located in Moldova. The audience members responded generously to his appeal.
