Hiroshima, Japan - On March 21, 160 people, including local key figures and Ambassadors for Peace, gathered at the Hiroshima International Conference Hall to attend the Ambassadors for Peace Seminar in West Hiroshima. Mr. Hideaki Hirata, Co-chair of the Council for Ambassadors for Peace in West Hiroshima, gave an address about peace initiatives.
Following congratulatory remarks by a prefectural assembly member representing the distinguished guests, Mr. Hideo Oyamada, Chairman of UPF-Japan, gave a lecture on the theme “The World at Crisis and the Course of Japan.” First, Mr. Oyamada explained about the actions taken around the world to solve the urgent global issues such as ethnic and religious conflicts, environmental issues, poverty, and family breakdown. Then, he offered a vision for Japan to play a leading role in promoting world peace, emphasizing the roles of the Ambassadors for Peace.
After the lecture, Mr. Oyamada presented Ambassador for Peace certificates to the eight newly nominated Ambassadors for Peace. Then, Mr. Katsuo Suzuki, a member of the West Hiroshima branch of the Association for the Promotion of True Families, gave a report on the activities of “VolunPolun,” a family volunteer circle that brings generations together to engage in activities such as cleaning projects around local rivers and collecting bottle caps. The participants were deeply impressed by the fact that families are regularly engaging in volunteer activities.
At the end of the seminar, the participants had the opportunity to offer their thoughts. Many appealed for more seminars of this kind in order to learn more about the world and the ideals of the Universal Peace Federation. A gentleman who participated in the seminar for the first time along with his daughter commented, “Although Japan may be in a state of confusion in this greatest recession of the century, Mr. Oyamada’s message gave me great hope. From now on, I would like to participate actively in local volunteer activities as an Ambassador for Peace.”
