Remembering the Anniversary of the "Great Victory"

Commemorative and educational activities related to the May 9, 1945 Victory of the Great Patriotic War took place in Zelenograd, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, and the border with Belarus.

Zelenograd - On April 27, at the health school №1923 in Zelenograd, a peacemaking activity "The saved world remembers..." took place. Among participants were war veterans, members of the peacemaking club "Locus standi" headed by Ambassador for Peace Karina Kwazem, the "Vetogon" theater studio, and the "Brotherhood-in-arms" public organization from Moscow.  There were more than 360 participants.

The activity was accompanied by an exhibit of student writings on the theme of "My family history in my country’s history." This unique exhibition presented a collection of children’s essays about their relatives (father, mother, grandfather, and grandmother) who were veterans of the Great Patriotic War and other armed conflicts of the 20th century.

Moscow - The international photo exhibition “We remember and feel proud!” commemorating the 65th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the 45th anniversary of the film “Soldier’s father”, opened on April 14 in the hall of public school №199 in Moscow.

On the opening day, the exhibition was visited by film producer Rezo Chkheidse, a USSR People’s Artist, Lenin Prize winner, Cannes Film Festival prize winner and UPF Ambassador for Peace. The exhibition items were presented by the author of the project Avtandil Kavtaradze; by Ambassador for Peace, president of the Marathon Association of Georgia, and co-author of the project, Shota Alaniya; and by the school №199 teacher of history and social sciences Larissa Menkenova.

Yekaterinburg - On April 21, the Women’s Federation for World Peace organized a charitable sightseeing tour on the theme of “Yekaterinburg in wartime” for 30 children ages 10 – 14 (children without parents and invalid children), commemorating the anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Geographically Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg) was located far from the front line, but it would be impossible to overestimate the city’s impact on the Victory. The city tram and trolleybus administration, together with its excursion department “El Trans”, made it possible for the children to learn more about the military past of their native city and feel with their hearts the difficult childhood of their grandmothers and grandfathers during the war.

Border with Belarus - In the Mogilev region of Belarus, at the initiative of the regional branch of the All-Belarus Peace Foundation, a border meeting of two districts of the Smolensk region and two districts of the Mogilev region took place. It commemorated the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus, as well as the 65th anniversary of the Victory. Here are the words of the president of the All-Belarus Peace Foundation, Ambassador for Peace Marat Yegorov, who co-sponsored the event:

The meeting started traditionally with the offering of bread and salt, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorials.  The grand celebration meeting was held in the district’s cultural center. Among the speakers were representatives from the administrations of the Roslavl and Shumyach districts in Russia, and the Kostyukovichi district of the Mogilev region in Belarus. All veterans who could move were seated in the first row. I handed to each of them commemorative medals on behalf of our Foundation “For active participation in the drive for peace.”
