Lomé, Togo—The prime minister of Togo, H.E. Komi Selom Klassou, received an international UPF delegation on June 19, 2018. The UPF delegation, led by Dr. Thomas Walsh, chairman of UPF, was traveling throughout West Africa to convey a memorandum of understanding from UPF’s founder, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon. The meeting with Prime Minister Klassou was arranged by former Prime Minister Agbéyomé Kodjo, who helped initiate Togo’s chapter of the International Association Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) in June 2017 and is currently Togo’s representative on UPF’s Global Peace Council. Also present were Mr. Adama Doumbia, secretary general of UPF-Africa, and Dr. Paterne Zinsou, secretary general of UPF-West Africa.
The delegation was warmly welcomed by H.E. Klassou, owing to his warm relationship with H.E. Kodjo. He agreed to carefully consider the memorandum of understanding, which outlines proposed UPF projects that include supporting the IAPP, the Interreligious Association for Peace and Development (IAPD), the Peace Road, character education programs, and other initiatives. The delegation’s purpose was to propose these collaborative programs as a follow-up to January’s Africa Summit in Senegal.
After the meeting, Dr. Walsh gave an interview with the Togolese press.
