Conference Focuses on ‘Building Bridges’ in Conflict Areas

Kyiv, Ukraine—UPF co-sponsored a conference titled "Building Bridges across Boundaries."
The unification of the Korean Peninsula, conflicts in the Middle East, and diplomatic methods of conflict resolution were discussed at the event held on June 23, 2021.
UPF-Ukraine cooperated with the Ukraine International University to hold the conference. There were 40 participants, and there was also a live broadcast on the Internet.
The moderator was Dr. Oleksiy Fast, deputy dean of the Department of Theory of Law and International and Political Relations of the Institute of Ukraine.
Dr. Mykhailo Ilin, the head of UPF-Ukraine, opened the conference. He reminded the audience that June 22, 1941, was the date when Ukraine became involved in World War II. On June 25, 1950, the Korean War began. Nobody expected that our country, Ukraine, would be involved in an armed confrontation again. There are now more than 40 military conflicts in the world.
Dr. Ilin said it is no secret that even the United Nations, which was created to promote peace in the world, cannot cope with the burden of the problems that have fallen on our fragile planet.
Valentina Yefremova, the founder of Women’s Federation for World Peace in Ukraine, a member of the WFWP-Ukraine board, and an Ambassador for Peace, spoke about her first visit to the Korean Peninsula. After visiting Seoul in South Korea, the conference participants went to Pyongyang in North Korea. She said she was very inspired by Koreans’ love for their culture, and after visiting both Koreas, she understood that culture is an essential component in the unification of the Korean Peninsula.
Dr. Imad Zaza, the president of the Syrian Diaspora in Kyiv and a member of the Coordinating Council for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, spoke about conflicts in the Arab world and ways of solving them.
Mohammad Farajallah, the editor-in-chief of the information portal Ukraine in Arabic, emphasized the importance of following international agreements.
Victoria Savich, Ph.D., an associate professor at the Ukraine International University, spoke on the topic "Tolerance as a Factor in Resolving Conflicts.”
Then the five speakers used the prism of conflictology to look at ways of resolving the conflicts in Ukraine and Korea.
