Malaysia-2018-01-27-Korean Students Visit Malaysia for Leadership Project

Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia—From January 14 to 27, 2018, students from Sun Moon University in Korea participated in an Asia Leadership and Cultural Exchange Project, organized by UPF-Malaysia.

The students spent the first week of the two-week project in Negeri Sembilan, a state which lies on the western coast of Malaysia, where they volunteered, cleaning a community hall and a primary school in the village of Jawa and painting a mural. The students also experienced a two-day homestay with a local family. On January 19, a Peace Blessing Family Festival was held in Kuala Pilah with 20 couples, who participated in Peace Blessing ceremony, and 100 villagers, who attended as guests.

The Sun Moon University students also conducted an educational program at Chan Wa high school. They taught the students at the school Korean; how to play yut, a traditional board game played in Korea; how to make origami; and Taekwando, a Korean martial arts, as well as showed a Korean traditional mask.

During the second week, the students took a pilgrimage tour to several religious sites in Kuala Lumpur—including a mosque; Hindu temple; Buddhist temple; and gurdwara, a place of worship for Sikhs—and  learned the main teachings of different religions.

From January 22 to 23, a two-day cultural exchange program was held at the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), a private university in the city of Petaling Jaya.

On January 24, the students joined over 200 participants for the Peace Loving Youth Assembly (PLYA) at UTAR, which was co-organized by UPF-Malaysia. The national director of UPF-Malaysia, Rev. Yutaka Yamada, gave the congratulatory remarks, and Mr. Sudesh G. Supramaniam, president of UPF-Malaysia, spoke on “Heart Leadership.” The event closed with performances by the Sun Moon University students.
