Character Education Workshop in Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam - UPF-Asia conducted the second Character Education Teachers Training Workshop co-organized by the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences (VNIES) and Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Education August 28-29, 2009. Sixty school principals and elementary school teachers participated in a character education teacher-training program in preparation for the translation of the books and a one-year pilot program to be run by the VNIES. The seminar was co-sponsored by the International Educational Foundation (IEF) and the Mekong Auto Corporation in Ho Chi Minh City.
Character Education trainers from UPF included Mr. Pasit Sirimalai, Director of Southeast Asia Region 1, UPF-Asia; Mrs. Delia C. Javanasundara, Assistant Secretary General, UPF-Thailand; and Dr. Dinah Mindo, Former Regional Director, Department of Education, Region 3, Philippines and President, Pure Love International, Philippines. Trainers from the International Educational Foundation included Dr. Chuan Fong Chang, Asia President of IEf, and Mrs. Alice Huang, Asia Director of IEF.
The participants are eagerly awaiting a translation of the Discovering the Real Me Series and are ready to start a pilot project. And agreement was made with the Vietnam Institute of Educational Science that they will translate two student textbooks and two teachers manual, and after the translation, we will conduct another intensive training for those teachers from five schools which are under the institute.
