Promoting Character Education in Jakarta

Jakarta, Indonesia - In October, UPF resumed its Character Education and Youth Leadership Programs in various schools and universities in the capital city of Indonesia. School principals and university faculty express an urgent need for such programs as drug abuse and premarital sex among Indonesia's young people is on the rise.
There is also a great demand for UPF's marriage and family enhancement programs as the increase in broken homes and broken families is taking its toll, especially on the children, who suffer the most from their parents' divorce.
The close working relationship between UPF and a Muslim vocational school, SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Jakarta, located in the vicinity of the UPF Peace Center, is a model for others to follow. Besides frequent education programs being held at the school in the presence of teachers and students, student leaders come for further training to the UPF center after school.
As a result, we started our first joint service project on December 7. The cleaning campaign along the railway tracks with the students proved to be a great learning experience for all 45 participants.
Through such programs, we can see young leaders coming up who will invest themselves for the sake of their nation and the world in the future.
