Pangkal Pinang, Indonesia—In December, UPF-Indonesia held nine programs in eight different provinces as part of its national tour on character education, “Building Harmonious Families—Our Shared Responsibility.” More than 1,400 youth, students, educators and government and civil society leaders participated in the seminars, most of which were organized by members of the Muhammadiyah Student Organization (IMM, Ikatan Mahasiswa Muhammadiyah) in collaboration with various universities and other institutions of higher learning. Two programs took place at mayors’ offices, including the office of the mayor of Tarakan, a city located in northern Borneo, and the office of the mayor of Pangkal Pinang, the largest town on the island of Bangka.
Recognizing the urgent need to stem the spread of free sex and rampant immorality among youth, many of the participants were inspired by the UPF message on “Absolute Sexual Ethics: Absolute Purity before Marriage and Absolute Fidelity in Marriage.”
Since the tour began in September 2016, over 4,000 youths have publicly pledged to keep their purity until marriage, a commitment that has helped many young people in times of trouble and moral confusion.
