UPF-Belarus Awards Winners of Children's Drawing Contest

Belarus-2022-02-17-Belarus Children Draw Images of Peace

Minsk, Belarus—UPF-Belarus presented awards to the winners of its children’s drawing contest “Peace Starts with Me.”

The awards were given on February 16, 2022, in the city of Chervyen at the Center for Creativity of Children and Youth, and on February 17 at the village school in Korolevo.

Twenty-one children and youth aged 6 to 16, mostly from the Minsk Region—from Chervyen, the town of Smilovichi and the village of Korolevo—entered the contest.

UPF-Belarus organized the competition together with the Altera youth public association and the Chervyen District branch of the Belarusian Red Cross Society.

The competition, which promoted the idea of reconciliation on the Korean Peninsula, was held from December 16, 2021—as a reminder of International Human Solidarity Day (December 20)—until January 23, 2022.

The goals were: to strengthen international cultural ties; to express solidarity with the Korean people; to promote solidarity among peoples who are divided due to life circumstances; and to develop children's artistic creativity.

The children could submit drawings in one of three themes:

"Peace Starts With Me"—each person can change the world for the better. We are capable of more than just living for ourselves.

“Solidarity: We Create for Peace”—achieving peace on the Korean Peninsula.

“The Virtuous Daughter”—the Korean folk tale “The Legend of Shim Chong, or the Virtuous Daughter,” which exalts love and respect for parents and ancestors.

The winners were nominated in three age categories: from 6 to 9; from 10 to 13; from 14 to 17.

The jury evaluated each submitted drawing for compliance with the theme of the competition, originality, artistic embodiment, technique, quality and craftsmanship.

The winners were awarded certificates and valuable prizes.
