UPF-Denmark Invited to Pakistani Cultural Event

Ishøj, Denmark—On the occasion of the Muslim religious festival Eid, UPF was invited to speak at a Danish-Pakistani cultural event.
There were around 150 participants at the event, which took place on April 29, 2022, in a school in the city of Ishøj near Copenhagen.
UPF was invited by Dr. Sadaf Mirza, the co-founder of Women in Focus and Danish around the Globe, which supports Pakistani and other ethnic women in Denmark to integrate into Danish society and become more independent by learning Danish language and culture.
Dr. Mirza lives in Denmark but just earned a PhD degree in literature in the United Kingdom. A poet with 15,000 Facebook followers, she contacted UPF-Denmark a half-year ago after hearing about it from a friend in the UK, who is very inspired by UPF’s vision and work.
The first part of the program was devoted to cultural performances, for example, of children’s songs and dances and adults’ songs.
The second part of the program consisted of speeches. Dr. Thorkil Christensen, the co-chair of UPF-Denmark, explained about UPF. The second speaker was Ishøj Mayor Ole Bjørstorp, and the third was H.E. Ahmad Farooq, the Pakistani ambassador to Denmark, who mentioned that UPF’s ideas and activities are needed for peace.
The third part of the program was an appreciation ceremony in which Sadaf Mirza gave bouquets to the three speakers.
After that the participants ate Pakistani food and chatted with each other. UPF organized a small book table with UPF magazines and Mother of Peace, the memoir of UPF co-founder Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon. It was a good opportunity to meet new people, and we hope to further develop our relationship and cooperation with the Pakistani community in Denmark.
