Morokulien, Norway—Representatives of four Nordic countries gathered at the border between Sweden and Norway in a Peace Road event calling for peace in Korea and the world.
The event was organized on August 27, 2022, by national chapters of Universal Peace Federation in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. Participants also came from the United Kingdom and South Korea.
The international group gathered in Morokulien, a small area on the border, where there is a monument celebrating over 200 years of peace between Sweden and Norway.
In addition, there is a Peace Bell called “Time for Peace” inside a pagoda, donated by South Korea’s Hwacheon county, which is located close to the North Korean border. The pagoda, which was built by Korean craftsmen in 2014, was selected as the center of the Peace Road event, as it is a very relevant site from which to send a message for peace in Korea and the world.
The program began with a peace walk along the border. Following the walk, many greetings and speeches were given at the pagoda. The councilor from the nearest Swedish town, Eda, gave the historical background of Morokulien for the understanding of the participants.
The mayor from the nearest Norwegian town, Eidskog, spoke about the peaceful relationship between Norway and Sweden and added her greetings of hope for peace.
A Danish participant, who had just returned from visiting South Korea, brought a greeting from the governor of Hwacheon County. The governor’s message of peace to the Nordic Peace Road 2022 was read to the participants.
The program ended with the ringing of the Peace Bell.
