Peace Embassy Opens in Numazu City

Numazu, Japan - On November 9, 2008, a new Peace Embassy was opened in Numazu, a city located in the eastern part of Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. Among the nearly 170 guests who attended the opening ceremony were Prof. Hiroo Suzuki, Chair of Council for Ambassadors for Peace in Japan, distinguished guests from at home and abroad, and members of the Ambassadors for Peace Fund.
After cutting the tape at the 1st floor entrance, the guests were escorted to the hall on the 3rd floor where the opening ceremony convened. Following a short video introducing the activities of the UPF, Mrs. Yoko Yamanouchi, Co-chair of the Council for Ambassadors for Peace in Numazu, gave congratulatory remarks on behalf of the hosting organization. Following the introduction of the distinguished guests, Prof. Hiroo Suzuki gave the keynote speech. “I look forward to Numazu Peace Embassy’s great progress and success!” he said. Prof. Suzuki gave a word of encouragement after going over UPF’s fundamental principles, such as “the family is the foundation for peace,” to the participants.
Mr. Hiroto Shindo, Chair of the Council for Ambassadors for Peace in Numazu, expressed the Council’s goal to contribute to the community by raising up Ambassadors for Peace who can work to realize world peace by focusing on the future of Japan and the world.
1st Ambassadors for Peace Seminar
On December 7, the 1st Ambassadors for Peace Seminar was held in the Numazu Peace Embassy, which opened the previous month. Having Mr. Takayuki Matsunami, Director of UPF-Japan Education Section, as the lecturer, nearly 80 participants, including local key figures and Ambassadors for Peace participated. On behalf of the host, Mr. Hiroto Shindo, Chair of the Council for Ambassadors for Peace in Numazu, gave an address. “Many distinguished guests from home and abroad visited us within a mere month after the opening of this Peace Embassy. We hope to further intensify our activities by working closely with the local entities,” said Mr. Shindo.
After a congratulatory remark by a member of the city council in Atami, Mr. Matsunami gave a lecture with enthusiasm, covering topics that range from global issues, such as the necessity of UN renewal and the recent financial crisis, to individual issues such as the attitude of the heart. One of the participants expressed his impression after the lecture, “I truly felt it important for those working in the fields of politics and economics to have moral values.”
Then there was an award ceremony for the 3 newly nominated Ambassadors for Peace. After the seminar, the participants enjoyed social interaction while having lunch in the 1st floor hall.
