Johannesburg, South Africa - Four Christian ministers from Malawi and Zimbabwe took part in seminars organized by UPF-Southern Africa on September 15-19 and 22-25 at Wendywood, Johannesburg on the theme: “God Is the Parent of All Humankind.” The seminars were to help these ministers get a better insight into the vision and teachings of UPF founders, Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon.
The first seminar saw the participation of Bishop Shadreck Zelo Mumoyo Kamanga and Rev. Prince Redson Mkandawire from Malawi; while Rev. (Mrs.) Dorothy Mbarika Edwards and Rev. Bruce Khumalo came from Zimbabwe to take part in the second one. Rev. Jean Augustin Ghomsi, UPF Southern Africa’s Secretary General, was the lecturer.
All the participants praised the emphasis on strengthening marriages and families as the way to building a world of peace. They considered the insights about the human fall important to teach in their churches.
Rev. Khumalo, Senior Pastor and lecturer at Biblical college of the Brethren in Christ Church, was deeply impressed by Father Moon’s insight about the scriptures. "There is so much to learn from Father Moon’s life story,” Rev. Edwards said.
Bishop Kamanga and Rev. Mkandawire promised to work more on securing a good foundation for UPF in Malawi. Rev. Mkandawire, a former assistant national coach, will also work on creating a football team to educate Malawian youths on character and peace through sports.
These seminars were organized as a follow up to a subregional meeting of UPF secretaries general that took place at the same venue in March this year. Other religious leaders from different countries were to also take part but for various reasons they couldn’t make it. The hope is to have these seminars regularly.
