Exploring a New Vision for Canada

Toronto, Canada - Auth. Qamrul Khanson welcomed participants to the November 10 Ambassadors for Peace in the greater Toronto area and introduced Rev. Franco Famularo, Secretary General of UPF-Canada, who came from Montreal along with Bob Duffy and Torsten Koester. A special thanks was also offered to outgoing UPF Canada Chairman Dr. Chae Hee Lee for completing his task successfully and devotionally during his tenure. Of course, the life timespouse Dr. Mrs Inae Lee stood beside him as motherly figure for all of us to guide and provided assistance when most needed

Rev. Franco Famularo gave introductory remarks about the cooperation between the different regions of UPF in Canada and stressed to eliminate if any missing elements of the past. He vociferously commended the support of Dr. Mrs Inae Lee for standing behind her husband during his tenure as UPF Chairman Canada. He had full confidence that new ways should be pondered to move forward from what we have already established.

Rev. Bob Duffy expressed his pleasure in attending this meeting and was eager to listen new ways and new vision from Archbishop Dr. Ki Hoon Kim.

With reference to today’s speaker Archbishop Dr. Ki Hoon Kim who is the newly appointed Regional Chairman UPF Canada, the following introductory remarks were presented.

Archbishop Dr. Ki Hoon Kim before joining as Regional Chair UPF Canada has been the Continental Director of American Clergy Leadership Conference (ACLC) in the United States of America. It is an honour to Archbishop Ki Hoon Kim, that he grew up in the former Korean headquarters church building in Cheong Pa Dong as a young boy, at the same time that True Parents and the eldest True Children lived there. Archbishop Kim (2010) once said about carrying out his further responsibilities: "I have been appointed to go around the country and later around the world to encourage Ambassadors for Peace to create ideal families, ideal nations and an ideal world, with True Father's teachings as their guide".

10: 15 AM: Archbishop Dr. Kim was invited to speak on the topic of “UPF: New Vision for Canada” and the content of the speech was recorded as follows.

Dr. Kim welcomed all guests and expressed the conviction that what we have achieved so far is an asset and from such an asset we would expand further to enrich our values and take it to new heights for the Canadian chapter. Father Rev. Sun Myung Moon gave high importance to UPF Canadian chapter and which is highlighted by the fact that he visited Canada eighteen times. Rev. Moon was an inexhaustible speaker who spoke almost 7 – 8 hours at Clare-stone ON to convey and inculcate the importance of religion among Canadian members of UPF. Rev. Moon perceived the idea of human integration through the vision from God and such is the Providence of God which Father Rev. Moon stood for whole of humanity under One – God. From such a spirit from God, Father Moon visited Canada in June 1991 twice to be with fellow humans, as a source of guidance, motivation and encouragement through speeches, embracing, hugging and distributing his love.

The founding spirit of UPF is to learn from the history and use the knowledge from such learning to improve upon the future. Plan and improve upon the future, unless we imagine continual improvements in our segmented task, the results cannot be satisfactory. There is no doubt that under the leadership of Dr.  Chae Hee Lee, tremendous work has been done and the achievements are remarkable, such would have not been achieved through the hard work and coordination among all of you in Canada. I would add value to it and the process already started by getting inputs from my colleagues Dr. Hoossen Auckberaullee, Rev. Mitch Dixon, Rev. Katsumi Kambashi and Auth. Qamrul Khanson with whom we discussed future course over the dinner table in downtown Indian restaurant in Mississauga. I need to travel other regions, meet the established leaders to enhance our spirit in Canada and fulfil the vision of Father Rev. Moon for this beautiful nation; Canada.

Dr. Kim highlighted the advice of Dr. Hoossen Auckberaullee by which VIPs from Ontario and from the rest of Canada to visit Korea on the Foundation Day’s celebration. This opens the venue for the dissemination of understanding the principles which made the basis for the foundation of Universal Peace Federation; Human Family Under One – God.

Dr. Kim added, we are highly sensitive to the sacrifices made by the Canadian soldiers and it is commemorated as Remembrance Day. It is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries since the end of World War I to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. The red remembrance poppy has become a familiar emblem of Remembrance Day due to the poem "In Flanders Fields". These poppies bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders in World War I, their brilliant red colour an appropriate symbol for the blood spilled in the war. In 1931, the federal parliament adopted an act to amend the Armistice Day Act, providing that the day should be observed on November 11 and that the day should be known as "Remembrance Day".

Dr. Kim noted a lesson from the recent US Presidential election. The win of Obama was not the amounts of money spend but his campaign was comparatively very well organized. Such is the lesson we also get from the Korean War when a unit of 700 Canadian soldiers defeated almost 5000 Chinese Communist soldiers in the battle of Kapyong. The battle of Kapyong and victory of Canadian troops against-all-odds should take its place alongside Vimy Ridge, Juno Beach and Queenston Heights in the annals of great Canadian military triumphs. We need to organize well and deliver so that we do not see war but peace among all diversities of humankind.

Father Rev. Sun Myung Moon (25 February 1920 – 3 September 2012) acted to revive the Christian world, Youth Groups and VIP Groups towards true family ideals. The great leaders in American history lay the American Founding Principles by which The American Ideals of 1776 defined twelve Basic American Principles. If someone defaulted on these principles it would be like betraying. George Whitefield (December 16 1714 – September 30, 1770), Jonathan Edwards (October 5, 1703 – March 22, 1758), Charles Grandison Finney ((1792-08-29)August 29, 1792 – August 16, 1875(1875-08-16)) and many others took the torch of Awakening to revive Christianity in America. The civil rights movement was a worldwide political movement for equality before the law occurring between approximately 1950 and 1980. So was the work of Rev. Moon to revive the Christian world and open the door for Religious awakening so that religions do not envy each other but devote for reformation on common grounds instead of wasting energy and resources to belittle each other religious tenets.

In the last moment of his speech, Archbishop Dr. Kim expressed need to keep our mind, body and spirit to transform ourselves as true persons. May God bless all of you who have attended today’s meeting and bless your families (A’men).

10: 50 AM: Question & Answer session attracted many comments and Rev. Franco Famularo, Rev. Bob Duffy, Dr. Auckbaraullee, Rev. Mitch Dixon, Rev. Stoyan Tadin and Lilly Tadin added value to the prudent speech of Dr. Kim.

Dr. Auckbaraullee highly valued the leadership speech of new vision for the UPF Canada. He gave his wholehearted support to the principles laid by Dr. Kim. He said, many VIPs would like to join hands with UPF leadership in the GTA and he would be instrumental with the cooperation of Rev. Mitch Dixon to accomplish what Dr. Kim envisages from us.

Rev. Stoyan Tadin made a very strong point by asserting that we as UPF members in Central District shall become learner to evolve into as teachers for our cadre and for our new prospective members, Ambassador for Peace and friends. 

Rev. Franco Famularo wholeheartedly expressed that the message is well taken and the matter would spread across Canada by which we would have more interactions and actions for the future development of UPF in Canada.

Rev. Bob Duffy was convinced to take this message to Montreal with affirmation that we would add upon what we have already established.
