Khabarovsk, Russia - Russia's Armed Forces Day, February 23, served as a good opportunity to discuss with children gender differences and social roles of boys and girls. This topic is particularly relevant since many young people have little idea not only about the role of a mother and father in the family but even about the value of the family as such.
On the eve of February 23, UPF activists conducted an interactive lesson with first-grade pupils in one of the city schools in Khabarovsk. During the classes the children independently developed and expressed their opinions about what qualities a real male should possess, ranging in age from first-grade boys to fathers and heads of a family. They were asked what kinds of heroes boys should aspire to be Surprisingly, the children pointed out the traditionally masculine traits admired in all cultures, including bravery, strength, action-oriented, and defending the weak. Both girls and boys gave the same answers. Finally, they compiled a list entitled: "True masculinity through the eyes of first-grade students."
Then girls in the class handed greeting cards to the boys and expressed their cordial wishes. Finally, they performed a beautiful song: "We wish our boys to become real men and in the future create strong families!"
