San Jose, Costa Rica - Dr. Charles S. Yang, chairman of Universal Peace Federation, visited San José, the capital of Costa Rica, Dec. 2-3, 2014. During this time he met high-level government officials and introduced them to UPF's goals and principles.
Ing. Gerardo Brenes A., secretary general of UPF-Costa Rica, welcomed Dr. Yang to the organization’s national headquarters on Dec. 2. After a luncheon at which he was the guest of honor, Dr. Yang visited the nation’s Legislative Assembly,where he explained to Dr.Henry Mora Jiménez, president of the Legislative Assembly, about the mission and objectives of UPF and invited him to an upcoming UPF conference in Korea.
Next Dr. Yang met Minister for Justice and Peace Cristina Ramirez Chavarria, who expressed great interest in working together with UPF.
In the evening Dr. Yang had dinner with Minister of Foreign Trade Dr. John Fonseca Ordoñez, who had attended a UPF conference in Korea earlier in 2014. Dr.Yang and Dr. Fonseca discussed ways in which UPF could work with the ministry on various cultural and economic projects.
On the morning of Dec. 3, Dr. Yang visited the UPF headquarters, where he watched a Telepeace television program about UPF-Costa Rica entitled “Pathways to Peace.”
Later that day, Dr. Yang gave a speech at UPF headquarters about the Universal Peace Federation’s approaches and achievements. He was recognized as a peacemaker by UPF Secretary General Brenes.
Costa Rican politicians and national leaders attended a farewell dinner for Dr. Yang at which issues of national interest and the UPF mission and values were discussed.
