Buenos Aires, Argentina - “Sharing, Supporting and Celebrating” was the theme of UPF-Argentina’s year-end meeting.
During the Dec. 20 event, UPF members reviewed the organization’s accomplishments of 2014 through a video (www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1qTgyzQxEY).
Those individuals who supported and collaborated with UPF for the sake of peace were thanked, and the ninth anniversary of UPF’s establishment in Argentina was celebrated.
Four distinguished citizens were awarded the Ambassador for Peace certificate:
- Horacio Daboul, “for his tenacious community work, his service vocation, and his energy toward the initiative of planting olive trees ‘for life and peace,’ as an expression of interreligious and intercultural coexistence.”
- Alejandro D’Alessandro, “for his service vocation, his valuable work as the Solidarity Contest Jury, and for his radio activity ‘Peace Action,’ a space to keep promoting dialogue and concrete expressions of fraternity.”
- Graciela Licciardi, “for her valuable contribution to literature and culture, her service vocation, and her effort in making possible the anthology Sense and Peace—UPF-Argentina, as a contribution to the culture of encounter and solidarity.”
- Alicia Maciel, “for her valuable and silent work, her service vocation, and her initiative of gathering representatives from different areas who were able to act according to the promising expressions of fraternity.”
This was a meeting in which fellowship was a priority. There was also a feeling of nostalgia in remembering all the experiences of 2014 as well as seriousness in looking forward to the new year with its new challenges.
At the end, all present shared a toast of good wishes, and members of the Peace Council cut a victory cake to celebrate UPF-Argentina’s ninth anniversary. Guests were given UPF calendars with pictures of activities from 2005—looking forward to UPF-Argentina’s 10th anniversary—and a souvenir with a quote from UPF Founder Dr. Sun Myung Moon’s autobiography, As a Peace-loving Global Citizen: “There is no wall which we cannot climb, and there is no dream which we cannot fulfill, when we share our love with a sincere heart.”
