NIGERIA-2015-02-28-Training for Peaceful Elections

Abuja, Nigeria—Following the postponement of general elections, UPF-Nigeria, in partnership with the West Africa Network of Election Observers (WANEO), has intensified efforts to train volunteers in peaceful election practices.

At the UPF-Nigeria Peace Education Center in the capital, Abuja, 18 volunteers attended a peace education seminar on February 28, 2015, which focused on bringing a peaceful outcome to the Nigerian general elections which will be held on March 28 and April 11.

Presentations focused on the need for peaceful elections, the principles of peace, the root causes of electoral violence, and the role of volunteers as election observers and facilitators for peaceful elections.

After the training, the volunteers will be mobilized to their local communities to educate others on the need for peaceful elections.

At the end of the seminar, Prince Herbert, the coordinator of WANEO, presented certificates of participation to all who had attended.
