Toronto, Canada—A television program about marriage and faith that was hosted by a UPF representative was shown at UPF-Canada’s monthly meeting.
The meeting on April 2, 2016, took place in Toronto and was moderated by Auth. Qamrul Khanson.
Before the television program was shown, Mr. Khanson spoke about the ongoing discussion between representatives of UPF and the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) to cooperate and coordinate programs that promote family and marriage values, as well as other religious values.
In addition, UPF-Canada Chair Rev. Moonshik Kim introduced the Sunhak Peace Prize, an award given annually to individuals and/or organizations that contribute to creating peace in the world through their commitment to environmental sustainability and innovative solutions to conflict-causing crises. The Prize Committee invites nominations for the award, and Rev. Kim suggested UPF-Canada consider candidates from the region.
A video of the Horizon Interfaith television program, which was produced by the public-access corporation Rogers TV and was hosted by Mr. Edmond Young, who attended the meeting, was then shown.
After watching the program, the attendees provided feedback and made recommendations for future programs. The following are some of their comments:
- Include representatives from a wider spectrum of religions, such as the Jewish; Sikh; Zoroastrian; Eastern Orthodox; Coptic; and other faiths.
- Invite woman representatives, too. Women—from single moms and those who are divorced to those who work and are in interfaith marriages—face many hurdles. Women also have a leadership role to uphold family values.
- Engage youth from diverse communities to foster a sense of togetherness among Canadians and build bridges for the future generation. Youth are the leaders of the present-building future.
- Start inculcating leadership know-how right from home, which would encourage children to practice leadership in school and college.
- Create a separate UPF program for youth.
Also, Mr. A. R. Qureshi expressed his appreciation for the Horizons TV program with UPF; it helps people to understand religious values and promotes interfaith dialogue.
The meeting concluded with Dr. Hoossen Auckbaraullee speaking on thankfulness, and with prayers for one human family under God.
