Kinshasa, DR Congo—More than 150 media professionals and other VIPs attended a conference titled “The Role of the Media in the Realization of a World of Peace.”
Inspired by the resolutions made by an all-Africa summit held in Lusaka, Zambia, in April, the DR Congo chapter of UPF held the May 6, 2017, event in order to set up a national network of journalists for peace.
The prominent guests included the president of the D.R. Congo journalists association, the director of the news organization Digital Congo, and the president of the NGO Journalists in Danger.
The UPF regional chair for Africa West attended the meeting, as did the chair and the secretary general of the Congolese chapter of UPF.
Several speakers gave presentations on the UPF founders and the peace initiatives that they have established.
Ambassador for Peace certificates were awarded to about 20 participants.
At the end of the program the participants lined up to sign the statement of the new Journalists for Peace.
