Nigeria Ambassadors for Peace Study Peace Principles

Nigeria-2017-07-08-SW Nigerian Ambassadors for Peace Study Peace Principles

Ikeja, Nigeria—About 50 Ambassadors for Peace from the South West zone attended a three-day Peace Education seminar.

They completed the seminar on the UPF Peace Principles with a call on all Ambassadors for Peace and the government to make a new commitment to making Nigeria a peaceful nation by 2020.

Some of the Muslim clerics in attendance offered to attend further seminars to be empowered to teach the Peace Principles from an Islamic perspective, as more than 40 percent of Nigerians are Muslims.

The seminar was held at the Nigeria Union of Teachers Auditorium in Ikeja, the capital of Lagos State, from July 6 to 8, 2017.

Topics covered included the Universal Peace Principles, the Root Causes of Conflict, Principles of Reconciliation, Marriage and Family, and Strategies for Establishment and Management of College Peace Clubs and Community Peace Councils. A presentation on the mission and life of the UPF founders was included in the agenda.

The main lecturers were Rev. Shang Seon Park, the UPF special envoy to Nigeria; Rev. George M. Ogurie, president of the Nigerian chapter of Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU), an affiliated organization; and Dr. George C. Ikpot, secretary general of the Professors World Peace Academy of Nigeria. Dr. Raphael Ogar Oko, the secretary general of UPF-Nigeria, coordinated the seminar sessions.

Participants testified to the positive impact of the presentations and pledged to share the lessons that they learned from the program with their family members, colleagues and other officials to influence public policies and programs.

The closing session featured the inauguration of the Ambassadors for Peace Executive Council of Lagos State, the induction of new Ambassadors for Peace, as well as a Bridge of Peace ceremony in which participants from different religions and regions pledged to work together for national peace and unification.

The participants were challenged to participate in the World Peace Blessing program of UPF and also to encourage their children to embrace interfaith marriage among children of Ambassadors for Peace with the goal of building a united Nigeria.
