Germans Discuss Intercultural, Interreligious Mauritius

Germany-2017-08-26-Germans Discuss Intercultural, Interreligious Mauritius

Karlsruhe, Germany—A German UPF representative has described his interreligious and intercultural meetings in Mauritius over the past two decades.

Rüdiger Gräberhas visited the Indian Ocean island nation every two years since 1997 and, as a representative of UPF, has intensively cultivated his interreligious and intercultural work.

On Saturday, August 26, 2017, he gave a talk in the southwestern German city of Karlsruhe before an audience of 22, of whom 17 were guests. He illustrated his presentation with impressive photographs and film material, demonstrating to his audience the beauty of nature, the cooperation of people of different religions and cultures, and the socio-economic situation of the African nation.

This was the first event that the Karlsruhe chapter of UPF held in larger premises—a meeting room rented from a Christian community.

It was astonishing to discover how many religious organizations Mr. Gräber is in regular contact with. These include Hindu, Muslim and Christian organizations with memberships reaching into the hundreds of thousands.

The Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP), an organization affiliated with UPF, is also active in Mauritius, especially with a school project which enables children from poorer families to have good, free education and supervision. The project, which currently serves about 170 children, is financed mainly by various private enterprises.

Mr. Gräber finished his talk with an explanation of how he was given this unusual mission in Mauritius, what motivates him to continue, and why Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon founded UPF, this worldwide movement for peace. He emphasized the universal values of UPF that can contribute to harmonious cooperation between religions, races and cultures for a peaceful and fair world.

The 70 minutes of the event flew by, thanks to the humor with which Mr. Gräber presented the informative content. Despite intense heat outside, the audience enjoyed a couple of inspiring hours together, the presentation having stimulated much animated discussion over refreshments.
