Andorra la Vella, Andorra—Andorra joined the global event Peace Road 2017 with the theme of “Connecting the World through Peace.”
Fifteen participants walked through two main parishes of Andorra, from the old, historic building Casa de la Vall, which has housed the Andorran Parliament for a hundred years, to the Caldea Thermal Spa, a new, modern building which is the symbol of the Escaldes-Engordany parish.
On August 12, 2017, a beautiful day of blue sky and sunshine, we started our march in front of Parliament and walked past the 11th century Church of Saint Stephen and Central Park. The distance covered was about 2 kilometers (about 1.25 miles) through the main streets of Andorra la Vella, the nation’s capital.
We felt we really were connecting the world through peace, because on the Vivand pedestrian mall in Escaldes-Engordany parish we passed the 16 “Sweet Candies Caramels” sculptures of French sculptor Laurence Jenkell. Each of the 2.5-meter (more than 8 feet) acrylic glass sculptures was painted in the national colors of a different nation.
It was a very joyful time with united hearts and good experiences for all the participants. After the long walk in the hot sunshine, we concluded our activity with laughter and delicious ice cream!
