Geneva, Switzerland—The 2017 Peace Road recalled the visits to Switzerland between 2005 and 2011 of the late UPF founder.
The Swiss chapters of UPF and affiliated organizations Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) and Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) combined this year’s Peace Road event with a commemorative Peace March recalling the visits of Dr. Sun Myung Moon.
As in 2016, the Peace Road event started in front of the UPF Peace Embassy in the town of Belmont-sur-Lausanne. Ten cyclists challenged themselves to bicycle 70 kilometers (about 43.5 miles) to Geneva, to the Place des Nations (UN Square) to show their commitment and dedication to work for lasting peace in this troubled world.
They started at 10:30 a.m., determined to arrive in Geneva by 3:30 p.m., in time to meet the Peace Marchers who were making a pilgrimage to various sites where the “traces of Dr. Sun Myung Moon” could still be felt strongly.
In 2005, reporting on the UPF inaugural address by Dr. Sun Myung Moon in a crowded hall at the Hilton Hotel, the newspaper Tribune de Genève called the UPF founder and his wife “Messiahs of Peace.”
Indeed, the “traces of Dr. Sun Myung Moon” were well remembered in Geneva, from the 1985 conference on the downfall of the Soviet empire, to the various speeches in and out of the United Nations, the World Council of Churches, the InterContinental Hotel as well as the Hilton Hotel, etc., but also the very memorable moments in their close company.
The Peace Marchers, Ambassadors for Peace and FFWPU members remembered the very exciting times spent together with the UPF founders in Geneva.
The cyclists and the Peace Marchers met each other at the appointed time at the Place des Nations. After a few commemorative words the peace activists enjoyed some fellowship and refreshments.
