Montreal, Canada—Twenty-one people participated in a seminar on May 12th titled “The Power of the Five Principles of UPF.” These five fundamental principles form the basis for all the work of the Universal Peace Federation. The purpose of the meeting was to demonstrate the relevance, strength and universality of each of these principles for establishing lasting peace. Examples of their application were also given, including descriptions of some of the projects carried out by UPF.
Among the concerned citizens present were people from community and journalistic circles, of different ethnic and religious backgrounds, and of all ages. They found the speeches very inspiring. A young student enrolled in international studies who previously gave little importance to the nuclear family was so affected by the presentation "The Family: School of Love and Peace" that she asked for a copy of the slideshow. One of the participants testified, "It is unfortunate that this presentation is not given to a larger number of people."
We hold a wealth that has the power to transform the world if it is shared with strength and conviction. It is important to continue our efforts and to reach decision-makers in different spheres of society.
In summary, the five core principles of UPF are the following:
- God: We are one human family created by God.
- Spirituality: The highest qualities of the human being are spiritual and moral.
- Family: The family is the "school of love and peace."
- Service: Living for the sake of others.
- Unity: Peace comes through cooperation beyond the boundaries of ethnicity, religion, and nationality.
