St. Petersburg, Russia—An Ambassador for Peace announced that he will run a 5,000-kilometer ultramarathon to raise funds for children with cerebral palsy.
Yevgeny Kutuzov held a press conference on May 18, 2018—his birthday—to promote “5,000 Kilometers of Good (the Race for Elbrus).” He will run from St. Petersburg to Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe, which is located in southern Russia.
The originator of many socially significant projects and a veteran of many marathons and charity runs launched his charity ultramarathon as part of a UPF Peace Road project.
"By this action, I want very much to draw public attention to raising funds for charitable purposes," Mr. Kutuzov said.
His goal in running the ultramarathon is to collect 2 million rubles (close to U.S. $32,100) for rehabilitation of three children with cerebral palsy. The project is being organized by the charitable foundation Stars for Children.
Families of the sick children, trustees of the Stars for Children foundation, actor Sergei Migitsko, two television channels, friends of Mr. Kutuzov, as well as representatives of social movements gathered together on this day to support him and wish him a good journey.
On behalf of the Universal Peace Federation, Natalia Chigrina, secretary general of UPF of Northwest Russia, awarded Mr. Kutuzov a certificate of Ambassador for Peace.
Goodness brings us together as one big family. Someone first begins to give warmth to people, and others catch the idea, get infected with it, then they have new, brilliant ideas. The more numerous such people become, the smaller the problems seem.
