Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia—In 2017, UPF-Malaysia held three Peace Road events: in the capital of Kuala Lumpur, and in the southern state of Johor and the northwestern state of Penang. More than 5,000 people participated in the events, which took place in September, October and November.
Kuala Lumpur
Peace Road Kuala Lumpur was held on September 17, 2017 at the Kuala Lumpur City Square, with more than 3,500 participants, both young and old, who walked and biked through the capital city for part of the program.
The event, whose theme was “One Nation One Heart,” which celebrates the diversity of Malaysian culture and the spirit of togetherness, was supported by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and sponsored by several companies.
Guests of honor included the mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Mr. Tan Sri Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz, and the chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Mr. Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad. Both were inspired by the success of Peace Road event.
Johor
UPF-Malaysia collaborated with Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), a public university in Batu Pahat in the southern state of Johor, to organize the Peace Road event in Johor.
More than 560 passionate, young students participated in the event, which included a walk, in support of creating a world of peace and harmony.
Penang
More than 1,000 people participated in Peace Road Penang, which took place at Minden Field at the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) on November 19, 2017, and was supported by USM and the Asia Pacific University Community Engagement Network (APUCEN).
