Lima, Peru—On July 6, 2018 a forum on “Peace and Human Rights” was held in the Hemiciclo Raul Porres Barrenechea room in the Congress of Peru. The event was sponsored by Congressman Justiniano Romulo Apaza Ordonez in conjunction with the Peru Mission to The World, a charitable organization working in Peru.
The speakers included:
- Juan Alvarez Vita, a Peruvian diplomat and human rights expert;
- Luis Antonio Rocca, a military officer and specialist on international human rights;
- Willy Ramirez Chavarry, a lawyer and specialist in international human rights;
- Mohammed Kobbi, an imam of a mosque in San Borja, Lima, and a representative of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth;
- Dong Mo Shin, president of UPF-Latin America; and
- Trevor Jones, president of UPF-Peru.
The first three speakers talked about the need for human rights legislation to be promoted and understood throughout society in order to create a collective conscience and awareness through which human rights abuses can be stopped.
The three speakers that followed all shared their vision for world peace, including Dr. Jones, who spoke about the history of the work of UPF founder Rev. Sun Myung Moon and UPF.
The meeting concluded with an awards ceremony that recognized representatives of various organizations for their charitable work and peace activities.
Dr. Shin and Dr. Jones, who were representing UPF, were recognized for their contributions, which span over many years.
