Switzerland-2018-08-12-Peace Road Event Held on International Youth Day

Bern, Switzerland—Two teams of bicyclists arrived in the Swiss capital at the end of a Peace Road event that covered a combined 400 kilometers (more than 248 miles).

UPF-Switzerland held the Peace Road event on August 12, 2018, because it is also International Youth Day.

The two teams traversed large swathes of beautiful Swiss scenery with the goal of promoting world peace and the connectedness of one human family. One team cycled from the city of Biel/Bienne and the other cycled the longer distance from the city of Lucerne.

The event culminated in Bern in front of the Federal Palace, the home of the Swiss parliament.

As the cyclists practiced holding the banner, it attracted the interest of the police. However, the police relaxed when they saw babies and bicycles moving in a friendly atmosphere.

Both teams arrived in Bern soon after 11 a.m., greeted by a large audience in front of the Federal Palace, where several young people offered some words.

The main message conveyed was: “Youth can make peace through various activities in and outside the federal parliament, if they are united in the culture of heart.”

The participants then moved to the nearby river where the Federal Palace can be seen from the other side. After lunch, most of the participants enjoyed a swim in the fast-flowing Aare River.
