Regensburg Peace Road Follows the Danube River

Germany-2018-08-25-Regensburg Peace Road Follows the Danube River

Regensburg, Germany—Inspired by the motto “Connecting the World through Peace,” 18 bicyclists rode along the Danube River, which connects 10 European nations.

The Peace Road event on August 25, 2018, drew local supporters of UPF and the Women’s Federation for World Peace, an affiliated organization.

The local motto was "Thank You for Peace in Europe! 100 Years End of the First World War—100 Years of the Bavarian Constitution." Truly a reason to be grateful and to demonstrate for peace!

The cyclists started with a rally at Neupfarrplatz (“New Parish Square”) in the historic center of Regensburg, where they introduced the Peace Road initiative to passers-by and manned a Peace Road book table for four hours.

Then they cycled toward the Danube River, passing the Porta Praetoria, an arched gate dating from the time of the Roman Empire, and on to the 12th-century Stone Bridge, receiving a warm welcome from passers-by.

Then they continued to the Pfaffensteiner Weir and to the northernmost point of the Danube. The weather was very favorable for the Peace Road tour, and the predicted rain came only after the tour had finished.

Soon they reached the Großprüfening area of the city and then the pilgrimage church Mariaort, where they had a good rest.

The last part took them through modern Regensburg back to the starting point, Neupfarrplatz, where they finished the tour, a bit exhausted but happy, having given a strong signal for peace and unification in Europe with body, heart and soul!

All the participants wore blue or white Peace Road T-shirts and testified about the International Peace Highway to people they met along the 15-kilometer (more than 9-mile) route.
