San Marino, San Marino—A roundtable on the theme “Promoting Peace with the Logic of Love” was held as part of a “Football for Peace” initiative.
UPF together with Women's Federation for World Peace (WFWP), an affiliated organization, held the roundtable on August 29, 2018, at the Palazzo Graziani art center in the city of San Marino.
The 2018 "Football for Peace" initiative brought 16 girls from Israel, all born in 2004, to San Marino from August 28 to 31, to play football with girls from the host country. The initiative was supported by the San Marino Football Federation in collaboration with UPF of San Marino.
The initiative, which uses football as an instrument of peace and integration for the Middle East region, reached its fourth edition this year, the third hosted in the territory of San Marino.
The girls were accompanied by the principal of a middle school, Professor Tamam Wakid-Dabbah, and two Arab-Israeli parliamentarians. The principal was the main speaker of the roundtable, together with women from San Marino and Italy who are involved in the social and institutional spheres.
Professor Wakid-Dabbah’s school is attended by both Muslims and Christians, boys and girls, and emphasizes multicultural education and peace. The principal spoke on the topic of relations between Arabs and Israelis.
Professor Fausta Morganti, a former head of state of San Marino and minister of education for 15 years, offered interesting and informative remarks about the situation in her country.
