Deir El Harf, Lebanon—Nearly 100 bicyclists came from all over the country to participate in the biggest Peace Road event ever held in Lebanon.
The event was organized by UPF-Lebanon under the supervision of Mr. and Mrs. Jongin Park, representing the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU)—an organization that is affiliated with UPF—and in collaboration with the Municipality of Deir El Harf, and the Bicycle Club led by Mr. William Massad.
On behalf of the mayor of the municipality, Mr. Tony Aboujaude welcomed all the participants. Sheikh Abou Zeid, a Sunni leader from the city of Sidon (Saida), gave an inspiring speech, praising the cyclists for joining this important event.
UPF-Lebanon President Thomas Schellen gave a brief overview of the significance of this event and the founders’ vision for the Peace Road project.
In conclusion, Mr. Park thanked everyone for their participation in the Peace Road event.
While they were cycling, the participants were welcomed with refreshments by the Municipality of Falougha and the Raad Supermarket.
The Peace Road event concluded with a great lunch buffet that was sponsored by the Municipality of Deir El Harf.
While they were enjoying lunch, the participants were treated to a performance of a beautiful Japanese song by several young UPF supporters who had come from Japan to support the Peace Road event.
Overall it was truly a special moment to see so many young and senior Lebanese cyclists come together under the banner of the Peace Road and its noble cause.
We were very pleased about the coverage of the Peace Road event by a Lebanese TV station as well as print media.
