Vienna, Austria—The Austrian chapter of UPF has inaugurated a new initiative called Culture for Peace.
The launch of the initiative took place on July 4, 2019, in the offices of the Interreligious Association for Peace and Development of UPF, which is located in the Peace Museum Vienna.
An introduction to the objectives of Culture for Peace was presented by Mr. Peter Haider, president of UPF-Austria, and Dr. Sofija Bajrektarevic, program director of the new initiative. Ms. Anela Cindrak and her sister Dzejla took the audience on brief musical journeys as they performed on violin and accordion. A cozy buffet and animated talks among the guests concluded the evening.
Culture for Peace is a comprehensive UPF initiative that enables talented and engaged individuals, institutions and associations from various fields of culture (such as science, arts, sports) to support peace organizations and to create prospects for establishing peace among and within societies.
The basic tools of the initiative are the organization and support of cultural events; the promotion of artists, scientists and cultural workers; and the presentation of their peace-related works and activities. The interaction of (applied) sciences and arts within the broader environment is a focal content of the activities.
The basic prerequisite for a peaceful future is the existence of social values that support a culture based on the development and exchange of human ideas, knowledge and talents. The establishment and enhancement of a peaceful society embedded in environmental harmony is the only possible way toward a sustainable future.
