Jakarta, Indonesia—More than 200 people participated in the Peace Road 2019 event in Indonesia on August 10, which included a 5 kilometer walk through Jakarta.
The program took place at the Istiqlal Mosque, the largest mosque in Indonesia, and was co-hosted by the Grand Imam, Prof. Dr. K.H. Nasaruddin Umar, who gave the keynote speech in which he highlighted that people should never focus on differences but instead work together based on similarities and live for others to make our world a better place to live in. Afterwards, an Ambassador for Peace award was presented to the Grand Imam by Mr. Yasril A. Baharuddin, chair of the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP)-Indonesia.
A “Water of Harmony” ceremony followed in which seven religious leaders—from the Muslim, Christian, Catholic, Hindu, Buddhist, Confucian and Sikh faiths—poured water into a common vessel, symbolizing harmony and oneness of heart. And, a prayer was offered by each leader.
A representative of the office of the Governor of Jakarta came to deliver a speech on behalf of the governor, and was very touched by the event, particularly the “Water of Harmony” ceremony.
The hundreds of participants then walked and biked along a 5 kilometer-long route in Jakarta.
TIMD Indonesia gave a martial arts demonstration to inspire young people and encourage them to join TIMD.
