Moldova Forum: Healthy Families Contribute to Mental Health

Chisinau, Moldova—UPF was one of the organizers of a forum that emphasized the importance of families for mental health.
“The Role of Families in the Prevention of Suicide” was the title of the event, held on October 9, 2019, in recognition of World Mental Health Day. The World Health Organization had proposed the theme of suicide prevention for this year’s international commemorations of the day.
UPF organized the forum in partnership with Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU), an affiliated organization, and the Society of Psychiatrists, Narcologists, Psychotherapists and Clinical Psychologists in Moldova. It was held in Chisinau’s Jolly Alon Hotel.
Decision-makers in the field of mental health and health in Moldova attended the forum, which emphasized the power of families to maintain peace and harmony and prevent mental health problems.
The invited speakers were Vladimir Odnostalco, the vice president of the Parliamentary Committee for Social Protection, Health and Family; Alexandru Voloc, secretary of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection; and Balan Veaceslav, the chief of the General Directorate for Public Security of the General Police Inspectorate.
The 70 participants included professors of the Psychiatry Department of the University of Medicine, the heads of community mental health centers, the heads of the health centers that are friendly to young people from 37 districts of Moldova.
The forum received media coverage from Moldova 1, a national television company.
